About Tom

A native Texan (mostly San Antonio), Tom D. Williams is a second-generation part-time musician (his dad plays in the Medina Mud Band).  Tom grew up on the likes of Hank Williams, Buddy Holly, Willie Nelson, and various folk singers, as well as classic pop & blues standards, and began playing as a boy after his dad taught him some basic guitar chords.  He pulls from his broad musical interests when selecting numbers to play.  His background and range of musical interests also show up in the songs that he writes.  Usually, about 30-40% of the songs in a regular set are Tom’s originals.

Beginning with open mic nights, coffee house sets and parties, Tom has been playing gigs for over 10 years on a part-time basis.   Although frequently accompanied by lead guitar, drums, bass and/or harmony vocals, he is comfortable playing on his own as well.

An award winning songwriter and performer, Tom has played various venues in and around San Antonio including Twin Sisters Café, Beto's, Water Street Oyster Bar, Casbeer’s, Specht’s Store, La Tuna Ice House, My Place Bar & Grille, Harper’s, Order Up, Longhorn Cafe, Quihi Dance Hall, Two Bros. BBQ,  and Habanero’s Grill, as well as a number of private parties. In addition, he has played at events for Inner City Development, San Antonio Botanical Gardens, King William Fair, Texas State Bar Association, Walk for ALS, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

With an extensive song list including various musical genres, Tom is comfortable and capable of tailoring his set list and selecting accompanists to fit the occasion and to suit the audience.

By day, Tom enjoys working with kids as a special education teacher with 19 years experience.
